The winner will travel to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Spelling Bee May 31-June 2. The state spelling bee finals for grades 5-8 will be April 2 at the state fairgrounds. The Peewee winner will enjoy a weekend at one of the state lodges, a color television, a trophy and a plaque. More than 20,000 students competed in The Daily Oklahoman/Scripps Howard Spelling Bee and The Daily Oklahoman 's offices. Winners of school spelling bees at the Peewee level (kindergarten through fourth grade) and for students in grades 5-8 recently were determined at schools across the state. ![]()
